Kingdoms of Life Connected, second edition
Help your children find and explore the lineages of life with this 204-page book. It will help you confidently present the Tree-of-Life to elementary and middle school students. The content includes introductory lessons and learning activities for all branches of life plus the viruses. The prokaryotes and the protists are grouped for convenience of studies but not designated as kingdoms. The fungus, animal, and plant are presented as kingdoms. And as for viruses, the book states, "A virus is a virus and it is not a cell." There are listings of book resources and Internet sites for each chapter. This edition includes color photo cards for Tree-of-Life charts, printed on perforated card stock for easy removal. The charts themselves are described in the book, and the files for printing them are available as a free download. This book is useful at the elementary and middle school levels. It is also available in cases of 12 copies at a substantial discount.
What's new in this edition:
- The card set for the Tree of Life chart is largely in color. The images that were taken with an electron microscope are still in black and white, as are two drawings. The images taken with light are in color. (These are the same images as those in the item "Kingdoms of Life Connected: Color card set.")
- Updated view of protists - the lessons match the updated Tree of Life, with the SAR lineage, and the term "eukaryotic supergroups."
- More on viruses, including an explanation of how viruses are imaged.
